ギフチョウは、明治十六年名和昆虫研究所の設立者、初代所長の名和靖氏によって発見され名付けられました。 'Yellow Band' butterflies were discovered and named 'Souchou' by Kiyoshi Nawa, the first director of the Nawa Entomological Laboratory, which he himself founded in 1883.
